Max,
Gus, and Martin Thalheimer, who immigrated to America from Germany, founded
Thalheimer Brothers Inc. in 1939. They started trading in brass and copper
from a tiny building in Philadelphia. The principle business was with
brass foundries. For many years, there were only a few other employees.
One of those employees was Gus's son John Thalheimer. After studying metallurgy
at Lehigh University, John became the first Thalheimer to earn a college
degree. Against the advice of his father and two uncles, John eventually
joined the family scrap metal business. Today, the company has well over
100 employees. The one truck that the brothers drove themselves has been
replaced with an entire fleet of trucks and hundreds of roll-off containers
to service our customers. What was once a local company that traded in
only a couple of metals, has grown into an international company that
trades and processes all grades of copper, brass, bronze, nickel alloys,
and stainless steel. We have recently started to expand our aluminum department,
and plan to continue that in the future.
Although
our business has grown,
our work ethic and commitment to our customers has remained the same.
This is Thalheimer Brothers reputation.
